Introduction
The Anti-Racism Movement is a Non-Governmental Organization established by a group of local activists who work together with migrant workers to secure social, economic, and gender justice for all migrant workers and racialized groups in Lebanon. ARM runs a community center dedicated to migrant domestic workers in Lebanon where they can meet, learn new skills, organize, and access information and assistance. We mobilize public support for the abolishment of the Kafala (sponsorship) system and the realization of migrant domestic workers’ rights through advocacy and alliance-building. We also help migrant workers access services related to legal support, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, education, and shelter.
Project: Community based choir
Migrant domestic workers form the invisible backbone of many households, yet they often face isolation, overwork, and a lack of platforms for creative expression. The community choir initiative seeks to form a collective tool of resistance and empowerment for women marginalized by the oppressed systems.
Purpose and Scope of Work:
By fostering a supportive environment, the choir aims to strengthen bonds within the migrant community and build connections with the broader public. Engaging in singing together becomes a powerful tool for mental health and healing, offering members an outlet for self-expression and solidarity while creating a form of resistance. Through shared music-making, the choir also celebrates and showcases the diverse cultural heritage of migrant domestic workers, encouraging meaningful cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
In addition to these benefits, the choir serves as a platform for advocacy and awareness, using music to amplify the voices and stories of migrant domestic workers in public and community spaces.
